Nick Desnoyer receives Society for Developmental Biology Award
TSL postdoc Nick Desnoyer received the Trainee Science Communication Award in recognition of his extraordinary science communication and outreach efforts as a trainee member of the Society.
Nick has a passion for biology and loves spending time experimenting with plants, peering through the microscope, and reading scientific literature.
After his PhD in Zurich, Switzerland, Nick joined the Kamoun group as a postdoctoral researcher in 2025.
In addition to research, he seeks to communicate the beauty of plant science to the public through educational art projects combining genetic engineering and live imaging. That motivated him to found the non-profit OpenFlower, which bridges biotechnology, art and education through flower design with the aim to inspire a new generation to see biology as a sandbox for discovery and creative expression.
Nick says: "I am very honoured to receive the Trainee Science Communication Award from the Society for Devleopmental Biology and recognition for my work over the years. I’m particularly thankful to those who enabled and encouraged my endeavours in scientific art and communication along the way."

Established in 2020 by the Society for Developmental Biology (SDB) Board of Directors and sponsored by the SDB Professional Development and Education Committee (PDEC), the Society for Developmental Biology Trainee Science Communication Award recognizes great science communication and outreach efforts by by Undergraduate Student, Graduate Student or Postdoctoral members of the Society for Developmental Biology.
The award ceremony and Nick's short presentation took place at the Society for Developmental Biology's annual meeting in Las Vegas, US, in July 2026.
