Technician Commitment

We are excited to play our part in valuing, developing and rewarding our highly skilled technical employees, who play a vital role in our institute’s work.

The Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative, led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Technicians Make It Happen campaign.

By signing the Technician Commitment we have pledged action against the key challenges affecting our technical staff. The commitment includes four key areas:

• Visibility – ensuring that all technicians within our institute are identifiable and that their contributions are visible within and beyond the institute
• Recognition – supporting technicians to gain recognition through professional registration and external award schemes
• Career Development – enabling career progression opportunities for technicians through the provision of clear, documented career pathways
• Sustainability – ensuring the future sustainability of technical skills across the institute and that technical expertise is fully used
