In non-pandemic years, we usually hold a two-day residential event in Cambridge. On the first day, we each give a short presentation and attend a seminar led by an invited speaker. The day ends with a conference dinner and social event at which we elect a new student committee. The second day is given over to a social activity or outing. At our 2019 retreat, Professor Beverley Glover, Director of the Cambridge Botanic Gardens presented the seminar and led us on a guided tour of the gardens.
This year, in light of the current situation, TSLAM will be held in a virtual format, with a couple of afternoons of student presentations to practice our presenting skills, get to know each other’s research, and provide constructive feedback. Hopefully, we’ll be able to host a closing social event, outdoors and COVID-safe – fingers crossed!
