I am interested in plant-microbe interaction, especially the interaction between the Irish famine pathogen Phytophthora infestans and potato. I believe this knowledge will help to achieve more durable disease resistance in crop plants.
During my PhD, I focused on the MAMPs and apoplastic effectors from Phytophthora species and hunt for the corresponding surface immune receptors from potatoes. I used Effectoromics strategy to identify the Solanaceae plants which carry the potential surface immune receptors, then applied genetics, genomics, NGS and RLP/KSeq methods to map those surface immune receptors.
At TSL, I am aiming to identify the P. infestans effectors that recognized by NLR receptors from Solanum americanum. Once the effectors are identified, the distribution and evolution of these effectors in world-wide P. infestans races will be studied.
