Rita Maravilha Marques

Visiting Scientist
Sophien Kamoun Group

The main goal of my work is to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying powdery mildew resistance in grass pea. This intrinsically-diverse orphan crop is a very attractive scientific tool to study legume stress-coping strategies. I am mainly interested in identifying expression Quantitative Trait Loci, Resistance genes and Susceptibility genes, to then functionally validate them using Genetic Engineering and a TILLING platform.

Additionally, I am looking into how NLRs have evolved in different legume species and how they are differentially expressed between root and leaf tissue.
