Dr Maria Derkacheva

I got my Master in Biology from the Saint-Petersburg State University, Russia. During my Master time I was interested in ciliate biology and worked under supervision of Dr. Skovorodkin in the Institute of Cytology in St. Petersburg. I also got a Eurogene fellowship to work in the laboratory of Prof. S. Vainio in Oulu Biocenter, Finland. This was my first international working experience and it encouraged me to apply for a PhD abroad. I moved to Zurich, Switzerland, to do my PhD at the ETH Zurich in the group of Prof. Hennig and Prof. Gruissem. During my PhD I worked as well at the SLU, Uppsala, Sweden. My work was focused on epigenetic regulation of gene expression in Arabidopsis. Afterwards I wanted to do more applied research and I moved to France and worked for 1.3 years on the regulation of meiosis in Arabidopsis in the group of Dr. Mercier at the INRA, Versailles. I joined Prof. Zipfel group at the Sainsbury laboratory in October 2016. My work will focus on characterization of the role of BIK1 substrates in plant immune response.
