I am interested in how pathogens use effectors to counteract cell defences and to manipulate host cellular processes in their benefit. I use a wide range of techniques, including biophysical analysis and X-ray crystallography, to understand the mechanistic basis of how rice blast effectors interact with their host targets. By understanding the details of effector function, I hope to design new strategies to develop resistance against the blast disease in crops.
