Currently, I investigate the regulation of endomembrane trafficking in plants defending against invading fungal pathogens. Endomembrane trafficking in cells consists of the transport, budding and fusion of lipid bilayers containing a plethora of associated proteins, and is required to correctly allocate protein complexes and compounds to their destination during various developmental and immunity-related processes.

Of specific interest to me is the discovery and characterization of novel regulators and cargoes of these trafficking pathways in the context of immunity. What is required to mount the intracellular logistics for a working defence response against invaders?

Finally, I zoom in on the regulation of anti-microbial receptor trafficking shortly after their activation. This seems to be an integral part of plant immunity, but its precise role is unclear. The Robatzek lab has a long-standing leading role in the study of these pattern recognition receptors.
