Dr Agathe Jouet

Postdoctoral Scientist

I am working on the plant pathogen Albugo candida, responsible for the white rust disease in Brassicaceae. Although several genetically distinct isolates of the pathogen have been sequenced to this day, little is known about the evolutionary forces shaping their genomes as well as their phylogenetic relationships. My PhD project aims at the investigation of:

  1. the population structure of the pathogen in the wild
  2. the evolutionary forces acting upon Albugo candida’s genes (effector vs neutral genes)
  3. the role of recombination/genetic exchange between isolates in the co-evolutionary arms race with Brassicaceae

Using high-throughput sequencing, population genetics, phylogenetics and ecology, this project will hopefully shed light on the mechanisms involved in this pathogen’s highly successful invasion strategy.
