Post doctoral position in molecular genetics of recognition of effectors from late blight (Phytophthora infestans) by Rpi genes.

Closing Date: 02.06.2017 Reference ID: JJ01/2017 Salary: £32,004 - £38,183

Post doctoral position in molecular genetics of recognition of effectors from late blight (Phytophthora infestans) by Rpi genes.

A BBSRC-funded position is available to use pathogen DNA and cDNA sequence capture (“PathSeq”) (in collaboration with the Birch and Hein labs in JHI, Dundee) to investigate Phytophthora infestans effector repertoires, and to identify those effectors recognized by Rpi- resistance genes cloned from Solanum americanum, notably Rpi-amr3, Rpi-amr1E, Rpi-amr4 and Rpi-amr7D.

The successful candidate will have excellent molecular biology skills, an interest in plant disease resistance, in pathogen effector repertoires and mechanisms, and in learning and deploying bioinformatics methods to handle Illumina and PacBio sequencing data. Salary will be within the UEA Research and Analogous staff Grade 1A scale at between £32,004 and £38,183 pa; the appointment level will reflect qualifications, skills, knowledge and achievements. The position is available from 1 October 2017 for 3 years.
