Five scientists at The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) are included in the Highly Cited Researchers 2018 List.

Now in its fifth year, the prestigious Web of Science list, compiled by Clarivate Analytics, identifies researchers with multiple papers ranking in the top 1% of citations for their field.

TSL researchers who make the list for 2018 are Professor Nick Talbot, Professor Jonathan Jones, Professor Sophien Kamoun, Dr Joe Win and Professor Cyril Zipfel.

It is the fourth consecutive year that TSL has had four or more researchers on the list.

Professor Nick Talbot, TSL Director, said: “The Sainsbury Laboratory is home to some of the world’s most talented and influential researchers, as this list determined by scientific peers clearly demonstrates.

“I am proud that we perform at such a high level, consistently making fundamental discoveries in plant and microbial research, and training the next generation of scientists. Indeed, I believe we have many ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ of tomorrow among our students and postdocs at TSL and I am very proud of them.”

More than 4,000 highly recited researchers are named for 2018 in 21 fields of sciences and social sciences.

Annette Thomas, CEO of the Scientific & Academic Research group at Clarivate Analytics said: “The Highly Cited Researchers 2018 list helps to identify the researchers who are having the greatest impact on the research community as measured by the rate at which their work is being cited by others and that contributes so greatly to extending the frontier and gaining knowledge and innovations for society - contributions that make the world healthier, safer, richer, and more sustainable.”
